Burned Roof Trusses Inspection

Coconut Creek, Florida

STRUCTURAL INSPECTION REPORT

DAMAGE ASSESSMENT REPORT:

  • Field observations :

Chaiban Engineering Consultants, Inc. staff visited the site on March 7, 2002 and performed a roof inspection and determined as shown on the attached drawings that few portions of the roof structure ceiling covering (stucco) , exterior wall fascia and coverings were damaged beyond repair due to fire.

Based on our visual inspections, and due to the white paint coverings applied to the wood trusses, and roof sheathing, we were unable to determine if the roof trusses, bracing and any roof structural element were damaged and the extent of fire damage if existed . Further investigation by opening and removing the white paint is necessary to reveal the structural condition of the supporting truss members.

All repairs to windows, doors, fascia and aluminum frame to be in accordance with Metro-Dade product approvals and shop drawings, pre approved by our office and the building department prior to erection.

  • Recommendations and Solutions:

We recommend immediate repairs to the damaged wood truss elements as described herein above in accordance with the attached technical specifications, South Florida Building Code, local codes and design sketches.

The contractor must employ competent workers to comply with "OSHA" requirements and maintain safe working conditions to all persons involved. All areas affected by construction and repairs must be sealed off and protected from falling debris and tools.

  • Conclusion:

As illustrated above, the referenced trusses exhibited structural damage as well as  problems due to several factors listed. We recommend that immediate repairs and inspections be conducted as described in items above "Recommendations and Solutions".
